In the past one year, that is since May 1, 2017, the Maharashtra Real Estate Authority has sent letters to various planning authorities including municipal corporations, to take action against 293 projects, which are being carried out without any approvals.

This, the MahaRERA claimed, they came to know after receiving mails from a commoner. They had floated the email id only to find out about projects pending registration.

In the one year span, they received a total of 9,038 emails, of which 7,328 were valid ones. The names of 706 projects surfaced from these mails, of which 77 got registered after being penalised by the authority, and 89 were pending registration. The authority also found out that there were a total of 293 projects that were erected without any approvals. The figures were revealed by Vasant Prabhu, the secretary of MahaRERA.

"We wrote to all the planning authorities about the projects that couldn't be registered because they lacked the required approvals. We also wrote to town planning directors, collectors and municipal corporations and asked them to take action against them," said a functionary from MahaRERA.

This means, more than 290 buildings were being constructed without approvals from the authorities, action needs to be taken on these illegal constructions. MahaRERA has sent out an email id where it asked commoners to approach them with details on projects that need registration. The rule categorically states that all ongoing projects in the state need to be registered with the authority.

MahaRERA came in to force on May 1, 2017, and since then it has received a total of 2,145 complaints and resolved 1,169 cases. Int the whole country, some 27,000 projects have been registered, of which 16,000 are in the state of Maharashtra. In the state a total of 16,389 projects have been registered.
