Illegal parking on TB Road irks motorists

Continuous traffic snarls and frequent road accidents on the Thane-Belapur Road have exposed the negligence of the traffic department.

Insufficient parking space inside IT parks in the MIDC areas of Airoli, Rabale and Mahape are causing a large number of vehicles to be parked on the highway, inconveniencing pedestrians and other vehicles on the road. With the department turning a blind eye to the menace, some school buses and private vehicles have also taken to illegally parking on the road.

“Private buses that ferry the employees of the IT parks from railway stations to their offices on contract basis are not allowed to use the parking space of the companies. The drivers ferry the employees in the mornings and evenings and park the buses on the highway for the rest of the day. You will see hundreds of such buses parked in a stretch of 2-3 kilometres between Rabale and Airoli stations at any point of time,” said Prashant Upadhyay, a resident of Airoli.

Drivers and conductors of these buses also clean their vehicles on the road.

Vijay Patil, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) said, “We have taken action against these vehicles many times, but have not found any permanent solution. We will discuss the issue with company authorities if required.”
