The Dahisar Check Naka, one of the main entry points to Mumbai, has for long been a major bottleneck. Illegal parking of trucks near the Octroi naka, and complete disregard for the ‘yellow line’ rule — under which toll should be waived if there is a pile-up beyond a yellow line — creates massive problems for commuters.

“At times, traffic jams are caused by slow collection of toll at the plaza,” says Ramesh Sharma, a resident of Mira Road, who commutes everyday to his office in Dadar. “Moreover, when a motorist refuses to pay, citing the yellow line rule, it leads to confusion and verbal fights, leading to traffic jams,” said Sharma.

Traffic is also caused due to vehicles without ETC (electronic toll collection) tags entering the dedicated ETC tag lane. These lanes have no provision for allowing a clear passage to ambulances either.
