With the delay in starting the admission process, admissions at the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) at the University of Mumbai seem to be hit hard. Until Sunday evening, the official portal received only 19,319 admission confirmations.

DNA had earlier reported about the delay in starting the admission process for around 32 various undergraduate and postgraduate courses under IDOL this year. The process which generally begins in July, only began in the second week of September. The delay took place after the university handed over the task of admissions to a new service provider MKCL without any prior preparation.

With the process kick-starting late, several aspirants that were looking forward to enrolling under the varsity have moved to other open universities. "I was waiting for the BA admissions to start. However, when the process did not start, I enrolled myself into the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University," said Sneha Shinde, an aspirant.

Even after the process began, several students are still facing issues with the admission portal. "For the last two days, the admission server has been down. The university is really trying our patience," said Pratik Das, a MCom aspirant.

The university has now decided to extend the admission deadline up to October 31 hoping to get more students. " IDOL is a very important wing of the varsity. With this delay, it would end up losing the revenue generated for admissions and also its public image," said Sanjay Vairal, former senate member of the university.
