The crime branch on Thursday opposed the anticipatory bail plea of DIG Sunil Paraskar, who is accused of raping a model, in the sessions court on the grounds that it had enough material against the top cop. On his part, Paraskar's lawyer sought more time to furnish evidence to prove his innocence and sought an adjournment till August 5.

The prosecution produced a document, detailing the reasoning of opposing the anticipatory bail petition, before special judge Vrushali Joshi. The document, which was accessed by dna, states that the senior officer first molested the model after meeting her on the pretext of helping her with a case. It says Paraskar allegedly raped the woman when he had accompanied her to help her buy a property.

The prosecution says two people had seen Paraskar and the woman entering a building, the alleged molestation spot, and coming out after a short period.

Accusing Paraskar of not cooperating with the investigators, Chief Public Prosecutor Kalpana Chavhan informed the court that the agency had asked several questions to the DIG, but the latter said that he would first seek legal opinion from his lawyer before replying them.

Advocate Chitra Salunke, who appeared on behalf of the woman, also supported the prosecution's claim. She said, "The victim had immediately handed over her mobile phone to the police to support the probe, but it is a fact that the accused till date has refused to hand over his phone to the agency."
