For Niyaz Momin, the 48-year-old branch manager of Nagrik Sahakari Bank Limited, hopes that the consumer case he won against the Maharashtra State Electricity Department (MSED) inspires more and more people to approach consumer courts instead of keeping quiet about inflated bills.

After received the inflated bill, Momin immediately approached the MSED seeking relief, determined to fight for what is right. "I was harassed for more than three years. I had approached the two parites on several occasions seeking respite, but they failed to help me. Finally I decided to approach the consumer forum in 2009," Momin said.

When asked the experience, Momin said that from the time he had filed the complaint, the forum had been attentive to his complaint and the process had been quite tension-free. "Only at the time of filing the complaint did I take the help of an advocate friend, but after filing of the complaint, I pursued the matter alone," he said.

When asked about the delay, Momin said that the matter was going smoothly, but the absence of a presiding officer in the forum had led to a delay. "Even then I appreciate the consumer forum's order. I had sought a compensation of Rs 15,000 from the two firms and the forum accordingly has directed the two to pay the same,"said Momin.
