I forgive the culprits, says dead elderly’s son

Son of 56-year-old Sabatina Fernandes, who was murdered in Versova on Wednesday, Allwyn Fernandes said he has forgiven the killers as he follows what she preached.

"My mother always taught me that we should never take revenge. Following her ideologies, I have forgiven the culprits," Allwyn said.

Sabatina was murdered and robbed in her 7th floor apartment in Machchimar Mangela Cooperative Society on Versova Link Road on Wednesday morning.

The police have arrested the society’s garbage picker Vishal Tak and sweeper-cum-watchman Shivkamal for the murder and have detained two others. Their accomplice is still absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.Sabatina’s other son Darryl is in complete shock.

"I was already working abroad, but Darryl was sent abroad for the betterment for his career," Allwyn said. "We will either call him back to take care of our father or my father will move in with our close relatives."The funeral of the deceased was held at a church in Four Bungalows at round 4pm on Thursday.According to Allwyn, Sabatina was cautious and safety door and only opened the door for known persons.

"Even on Wednesday, she opened the door only to put out the garbage," he said.The accused were produced in the court from where they were remanded in police custody for 14 days.
