The 'love jihad ' case involving Ranjit Kumar Kohli alias Raquibul Hasan Khan, who allegedly deceived Tara Sahdeo, who is a shooter, has baffled the police. Police believe he grew rich in the last few years by running hawala operations. Kohli was arrested in a joint operation from Dwarka in New Delhi and brought to Jharkhand on a transit remand.

On 19 August, Tara Sahdeo was rescued from Bleairs apartment in Ranchi. Her complaint was that she was cheated by Ranjit Kumar who married her without saying he was a Muslim.

Showing several injury marks on her body, Tara Sahdeo speaking to Zee Purvaiya a sister concern of dna said: "He and his mother tortured me and forced me to convert to Islam. Before marriage I had no idea that he and his mother were Muslims..I don't want to be called his wife I want immediate divorce." The police is still trying to put together several loose ends in the case.

Tara says that she got to know about him being a Muslim on the day after marriage when there was a second wedding as per Islamic rituals. According to Tara, Kohli managed to convince her and she accepted him as her husband in the presence of 3 quazis in Bleairs Apartment.

Police are investigating details of how Ranjit Kumar or Raquibul Hasan acquired wealth. About 7 years ago Kohli's mother used to work as a domestic help. But Kohli suddenly acquired three flats which he has rented out. Police are investigating his suspected hawala links.

Ranjit Kumar's version is that he was born a Hindu but he developed a close understanding of Islam from his mother who is a Muslim who married a Hindu. After his father died he converted to Islam. He still has documents in the name of Ranit Kohli. Police believe that he escaped to Delhi in the car belonging to a sessions judge.
