This week, Lillian Pais, Secretary of ALM 105 at Bandra’s St. John Baptist Road shares an incident that had been troubling her neighbourhood but was ultimately resolved thanks to the work put in by officers of the H/West ward.
She shares...
“ In recent times, the profile of officers of the H/West ward is younger and more dynamic .The officers are easily accessible on Whatsapp and email. This has simplified what would have typically been an arduous process
involving letters, appointments and site visits. Instances of day-to-day problems such as unauthorised banners, missing/broken drain covers, drainage, dumping of tree trimmings/debris on public road and water problems are photographed by us, the residents, and sent via Whatsapp directly to the officer sand the same are being addressed within 24 hours. Recently, complaints regarding the demolition of unauthorised structures in our locality have been resolved in this manner. A fine dining restaurant that was set up in a residential building and a shop extension that existed for more than 20 years were unceremoniously demolished after a few emails and Whatsapp messages. We have also worked together with the ward to raise submerged fire hydrants and to ensure that all hydrants are operational in our locality. The latest project undertaken with the H/West ward is the development of the municipal garden. The plot had been secured with a boundary wall ten years ago but had remained undeveloped. However, at the end of last year the development work started. Today, there is a marked change not only in its appearance but also in its utility. The women of the locality now have a place to relax and tiny tots are seen somers ault ing and rolling in the grass. Developing and securing this open space has been the highlight of our partnership with H/West ward.”
