The Oshiwara police on Thursday raided the plush Meera Cooperative Housing Society and seized more than one lakh pornographic CDs and DVDs from a flat owned by IAS officer and current general manager of a Bombay Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking, Om Prakash Gupta. A father-son duo, Chandrakant Mukherjee (58) and Samrat (30), was arrested.
Chandrakant’s wife, daughter Misti (a small-time actress) and friend Rakesh Katoria were detained and questioned by the police.

The housing society is home to several top-level bureaucrats, IAS and IPS officers of Maharashtra. According to the Oshiwara police, neither Gupta nor the Mukherjees had completed the mandatory process of getting a police verification certificate before renting out the flat. The police said that they will check the documents and if there are any irregularities they will take stringent action against Gupta and housing society officials. Gupta, in his defence, said that police verification was done before renting the house to Mukherjee.

Interestingly, when police raided the spacious three-bedroom 15th-floor flat, there were stacks of CDs and DVDs all over the house. “In the kitchen, bathroom, hall, and bedrooms of the residence.
We thought we had entered some CD and DVD library,” said senior police inspector Nasir
Pathan of the Oshiwara police station.

The raid was carried out following a tip-off from police informants.

“We had received specific information that a large a number of pornographic CDs and DVDs were stashed in flat number 1502 in the C-wing of the housing society,” Pathan said.

Samrat told the police that he had watched all the movies but he was not involved in the sleazy business, and that he was unemployed. He also said that the family’s monthly expenditure was around 1.5 lakh, with the rent set at Rs80,000 per month.

Gupta is currently staying in a government flat opposite the Cricket Club of India (CCI). When contacted, Gupta admitted that the Mukherjee was his tenant.

“The family have been staying in my flat for the last six years. I am not aware of what was going on inside the flat,” he said.

“There was no complaint against the family. Whatever happened is very unfortunate and they will be removed immediately.”

The arrested duo have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology (IT) act for possession, distribution and sale of obscene and sexually explicit material.

A few months ago, the Oshiwara police busted a high-profile sex racket in the same society and had rescued five television actresses from flat number 1402.
