While English was an easy run for HSC students, many were struggling to complete the physics paper on Monday. However, the reasons varied. While some could not answer optional questions, most of them left out around 2-10 marks.

“I normally attempt all the questions even if there are options so that the moderator takes only those answers where I have scored higher marks into consideration. Today, I was unable to complete a compulsory four-mark question,” said Varshin Anavadia, student of KC College, Churchgate.

Students feel they were unable to complete the paper in time due to time constraint. This year, physics I and physics II were combined for the first time. Till last year, each paper carried 40 marks and was given two hours. However, the combined paper carried 70 marks and three hours for completion.

“The board should have given us half an hour more. Though they reduced only five marks from each section, the total time dropped by an hour,” said Kunal Kadam, student of Elphinstone College, CST.

Obviously, the helpline was inundated with calls from students. “Around 70-80% of the calls were from physics students complaining about them not completing the paper,” said Chandrakant Munde who was handling the helpline number.

“The paper was lengthy, not difficult. Today’s paper did not have any regular pattern and this made it difficult for students to complete it,” said Vilas Basare, physics professor from KC College.

Meanwhile, the secretarial practice paper for commerce students had it easy. Priyanka Patel from SNDT college, said, “The optional questions were easy.”

Ritesh Mirchandani of KC College, said, “I expected the latter half of the paper to be difficult, but it was quite easy.”
