On the occasion of World Water day today, almost 100 of students from HR College at Churchgate will be having a Matka (earthen pot) March starting from NCPA, Nariman Point to Police Gymkhana. The students will be walking with earthen pots on their heads and spreading awareness about the problems faced by the rural women in Maharashtra.

The Rotaract Club Of HR College has taken up the initiative — Aashayein: Adopt A Village. Through this initiative, they provide holistic development and basic facilities like water, electricity, education and entrepreneurship to the villagers. The club has built 11 wells in Sangamner block of Ahmednagar district and wish to make 15 more wells in the same block. They are mitigating the problems in the Ahmednagar district by raising awareness and funds towards the same.

Jahan Chandalia, HR student, coordinator of public relations and marketing of The Rotaract Club of HR college, said, "Since tomorrow is World Water Day, we are trying to spread awareness about our social initiative Aashayein, which aims at holistic development of villages in Maharashtra. One aspect of this is providing them with clean water, so thought this march we will imply how people in villages have to walk around 5 km to get clean drinking water. We will be depicting the lives of the people in the villages through this."

Another student, Sanya Limaye, said, "The villagers walk miles and miles with these heavy pots on their heads, to survive the family's needs. A march depicting the plight of women is something to be taken into consideration. A 100 students marching for it, would definitely catch the eyes of everyone around, and would throw a positive impact on all of them."
