Appalled by the gruesome incident of a three-year-old bitch sustaining serious burn injuries after somebody poured hot water on her, the Humane Society International's (HSI) India chapter, along with Thane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), has decided to offer a reward of up to Rs50,000 for any information about the accused.

dna had reported the incident on Wednesday, which left the activists fighting against animal cruelty dismayed. The bitch sustained 70 per cent burns. The injury was so severe that the bones in her legs were exposed.

Thane SPCA president Shakuntala Majumdar said, "It's sad to witness the growing number of incidents of cruelty towards animals on a daily basis. It's completely unfathomable to see that a person had to pour hot water on a poor animal to shoo her away. We appreciate the good Samaritan who brought the injured animal to our society for treatment and urge others to come forward with any valid information about this incident, so that the culprit can be punished."

An animal lover had found the dog lying near a building, and brought her to Thane SPCA, where it is being recovering now. "It's disheartening to see people adopting violent ways and injuring animals. This incident only exposes the skewed mentality of the person involved. We hope that the reward will encourage anyone with information about this heinous crime to step forward and talk to the police," said NG Jayasimha, managing director of HSI-India.

Anyone with information about the case can call Thane SPCA at 91-932271996.
