The accused, identified as Nafiz Rafiq Ahmed Shaikh, 24 and Mutlib Mohammed Ali Shaikh, 36, initially claimed to be members of D-Company, a famous Indian organised crime syndicate. The victim was threatened with his life over the phone call. Both the accused were arrested after Mumbra police laid a trap at the spot where victim and accused were supposed to meet with the decided amount.

A case has been registered against both of them and they are booked under sections 387(putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and various other sections of Arm Act of the IPC. Both the accused are history sheeters and have been booked earlier in similar cases of robbery.

Kapadia said, "I got a call at 11.27pm asking for the money. I hung up on the callers and thought that it was a prank call. Later, I received calls six times from different numbers and before I could speak anything, the caller informed me that he wanted Rs30,000 to buy cocaine. I recorded the call and registered a complaint with Mumbra police. The police asked me to meet the accused at the decided spot, M gate, near Mumbra station. The accused were arrested from the spot by police officers."

"I have not informed my family due to pressure and tension. I am just a shoe retailer who cannot manage the amount on the spot. The accused had information about me and my profession," said the victim.

A police official from Mumbra police station said, "We have seized a chopper knife from Nafiz and are investigating on why they needed the money. The accused were produced in court and will be under police custody till January 2."
