With the aim to make history interesting for school students, 23-year-old Dipesh Vedak, a resident of Thane has started a unique initiative.

Vedak, a history enthusiast and an avid trekker, has started an initiative to teach history to students in an interesting way by taking them to places of historical significance like forts and fortresses.

Being a graduate in history himself, Vedak felt that most children are disinterested in history because it is not taught to them in an interesting manner.

"As a child, I also never imagined that I would go on to do a Major in history in college. But the way in which the subject was taught in the later years made me interested in it," added Vedak.

On February 4, Vedak and a few other youngsters have organised an entirely crowdfunded trip for 40 students of the Mangubhai Dattani School in Borivali to Sudhagad near Raigad. "We will teach the Maratha history to students after showing them the fort and telling them the significance of each part of it. Some of the historical references would also be taught with the help of games," he added. Vedak said that over the next few days the group would involve more and more students in the initiative.
