The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) sleuths on Monday arrested a Hingoli-based Zilla Parishad (ZP) school teacher for suspected inclination towards terror outfit Islamic State (IS). He is the fourth person to be arrested from the suspected Marathwada module of the radicalised group. The arrested teacher has been identified as Raeesuddin Siddiqui (38).

According to ATS's preliminary investigation, Siddiqui was in contact with another IS sympathiser – Sheikh Iqbal Sheikh Kabir Ahmed (24) from Parbhani – who was nabbed by the agency on Sunday.

Siddiqui, who was working as a teacher in a ZP Urdu primary and secondary school, was living in a rented house in the Azam Colony with his family. He was acquainted with all three other people arrested for suspected links with the IS members – Nasir Bin Chaus, Shahid Khan and Shaikh Iqbal Ahmed.

Chaus had reportedly created at least 18 bogus accounts on social media, through which he was in touch with his handler in Syria, identified as only Farooq. Chaus also had plans to flee to Syria and join the banned outfit after doing some terrorist activities in India, according to the police.

Chaus's interrogation had revealed that he had got explosives made in order to commit terrorist activities and he had sent photographs of the explosives to IS members in Syria. Chaus, Khan and Ahmed later came in contact with Siddiqui and got him involved as well. After the trio were interrogated, Siddiqui's name came to the fore.

An English literature graduate and with a B.Ed degree, Siddiqui was posted as teacher in the district school on July 26, 2003. Three three years later, he was transferred to the Urdu primary and secondary school in Hingoli. The ATS is questioning Siddiqui at present.
