The Hindu Sena activists blackened the nameplate of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) chief, Sanjeev Jaiswal, at the civic headquarters to protest demolition of a temple at Pokharan Road No1.

Under its demolition drive at Vartak Nagar, along with other structures, a temple came in the way of the road widening portion, which had to be inevitably demolished. However, this action has received flaj from a the members from the Hindu Sena, who reached civic office and blackened Jaiswal's nameplate.

The incident happened around 11.30am on Monday, but Jaiswal said he was not aware of the incident, "I have always been positive while extending help and meeting people to discuss there issues. Even on Monday, I had been to Pokharan Road No1 and 2 and other places to take stock of the situation and met various people. This issue does not hold any importance (for me)."

As per the witnesses, two members of the organisation come to the corporation office at 9am from the back door and other two came at 11am. The alert police officials on duty in the civic premises caught them before they could do proceed with their protest. They were handed over to the police. The TMC has registered an FIR with the Naupada police station and further investigation is on.

"All residents from Pokharan Road and even the priest of the temple have voluntarily agreed for the demolition, as another plot has been promised to them to build the temple. There was no restrain by anyone and I wonder from where the objection came," added Jaiswal

Known among Thanekars as a chief who is seen taking stock of affairs on the city roads, along with a few selected civic officials, Jaiswal said he will be more cautious in future. "But this incident is a loss to Thanekars," he added.

Following the incident, Jaiswal said he will start frisking and other security measures will be taken at the entry point at his office. Whether it's politically motivated or some group of people have tried to flare up the issue, the incident is likely to affect various interactive sessions conducted by the chief with residents.
