Hindmata road will be shut till May 2018

The motorists' woes in the city are set to increase in bounds as the 2.3 km stretch of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road which runs along the Lalbaug flyover, Hindmata flyover, and Parel TT flyover will be shut till May 2018. The reason is that Brihanmumbai Muicipal Corporation (BMC) is shifting the more than 100 years old Tansa water pipeline which runs along the Dr BA Road.

The water line is under the ramps of the above said flyovers which makes BMC difficult to carry out maintenance and next to impossible solve leakage issues, a civic engineer said.

The Mumbai Traffic Police department has already issued a notification on traffic diversion for the north bound traffic on Dr B A Road and motorists going towards Thane will be able to use Dr BA Road only upto Bharatmata junction. From Bharatmata junction no vehicle will be allowed to take left/right turn towards Currey Road flyover bridge.

"Shifting of Tansa pipeline is a big work on Dr BA Road and may go till May 2019. However, to avoid closure of roads, we will try to complete the work till May 2018 itself," a senior civic officer said on condition of anonymity.

While the flyovers of Lalbaug, Hindmata and Parel TT will be operational, only one or two lanes of the Dr B A Road will be open for vehicles to go on the flyovers. "There will be traffic snarls due to this. Motorists can use the optional route and Traffic police will also put Directional Boards to guide motorists and pedestrians. While, Traffic police staff will also be posted at the locations to ensure lowest inconvenience of traffic", a senior officer from Mumbai Traffic police said.
