The Himalayan Club will be hosting the Indian screening of the Banff Mountain Film Festival, a platform where many mountaineers share their stories and experiences by the medium of motion pictures. Climbers, filmmakers, writers, and photographers from all over the world recognise Banff as the key event in their mountain community, as sharing stories with fellow mountaineers and armchair adventurers alike is a coveted privilege.

Divyesh Muni, secretary of the Himalayan Club said that the purpose of holding these screenings is to expose the Indian audience to different forms of adventure sports. He added: "These are top of the line films that showcase the extent of human ability and we hope that it will encourage people to experience some adventure sport like rock climbing or mountain biking."

The Festival began in 1976 in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff, Alberta in Canada. A tight-knit group of climbers and outdoor folk looked for an annual event to entertain them during the shoulder season between climbing and skiing.

As the story goes, several late night meetings and a few beers later, The Banff Festival of Mountaineering Films was born. What began as a one-day festival of climbing films, has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff and a year-round film tour which encompasses about 840 screenings on all continents, even Antarctica.

This year, The Himalayan Club will be spreading the event to more than 9 cities & towns in India and will be screening the winning films of the Festival. The Mumbai screening will be held on March 21.
