All that it takes to be healthy is to develop that very thought into a practice. To stay healthy you do not necessarily have to add fancy names to your grocery shopping list. Smart substituting in your monthly ration would be an appropriate choice. There are little things one tends to over look, like for instance while buying wheat flour, does it even register that you happened to read 'refined' on the nutrients tag? If that hasn't been the situation yet, it's high time you opt for whole wheat flour over refined flour.

Munching is good, provided you pick on the right food. Opting for brown rice over white polished rice or even preferring brown bread instead of the commonly used white bread are smart choices leading to a big change. Yet again always make it a point to check on the ingredients of the product, even after being impressed by its glossy and promising packaging.

Refining grains basically means stripping off their nutrients, which brings down their nutritive value. So why compromise on health, when better options are readily available. Talking of healthy switching, Jayalaxmi Shetty a Kamothe resident said, "For the well being of my family, I choose to prepare brown rice instead of white rice. I also think I'll stick to this decision of mine as it has proven to be very healthy"

Whole grains also help in managing weight, if had in the right proportion. Nutritionist Reya Pahuja advises, "Whole grains are an excellent way towards healthy living as they are an important source of soluble and insoluble fibre, that it essential to maintain a healthy bowel and good digestive system. Being low on fat and high in fibre they help you feel fuller to avoid the temptation of snacking. This happens as they release their sugars at a very slow rate and this gives you the feeling satiety"

Healthy eating doesn't mean your palate has to be deprived of flavours. Bland is certainly not synonymous with nourishing food. Make the right choices, opt for appropriate foods. If being healthy becomes your mantra, then there will be no looking back and dissatisfaction will never come your way.

Nutritionist Reya Pahuja shares a healthy recipe:
