The Colaba police on Sunday arrested a 28-year-old domestic help, working at the residence of a businessman in Colaba’s Sagar Sangeet building, for allegedly stealing ornaments worth Rs16.50 lakh from the house. The police have recovered the entire stolen booty from the accused, identified as Sahdev Rai.

According to the police, the victim family has three domestic helps — Sahdev, Gautam Rai and Jeetendra Padi.

On December 20, the complainant had left for Delhi with her son and locked her ornaments in the cupboard. The two returned to the city on December 27. The next day, when the victim was packing for her son, who was leaving for Dubai, she found her ornaments missing.

“The complainant inquired with her domestic helps but they did not give satisfactory answers.

Hence, she lodged a complaint with the police. The three domestic helps were then called to the police station for questioning and, during sustained questioning, Sahdev admitted to the crime,” said an officer from the Colaba police station.

He added that at the instance of Rai, the stolen property was recovered from his sister’s residence in Andheri (East).
