Two helmetless youths died in a road accident in Mumbai after their speeding bike rammed into the divider at JJ flyover during the wee hours of Friday. The deceased have been identified as Yasin Khan (25) and Vijay Thambekar (20), both residents of Agripada.

According to the police, the incident took place around 2:30 am on Friday when the duo was riding a two-wheeler on the flyover towards Byculla. The accident took place when the rider lost control of the speeding bike and rammed into the divider on their left-hand side. Owing to the speed, the bike skid around 20 metres before coming to a halt.

The rider and the pillion sustained severe injuries and were rushed to JJ Hospital by the police and locals. However, both succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead on arrival.

"According to their relatives, they had both gone to Mumbra and were returning home when the accident took place. They were riding in speed and were not wearing helmets due to which they skid and fell," said a police officer form Byculla police station.

"We have registered a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence against Yasin who was riding the bike. We have taken their blood samples to ascertain if they had consumed alcohol," the officer added.
