The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rains for Mumbai and the Konkan region during the next 48 hours. For the second consecutive day on Sunday, heavy rains continued to lash several parts of the city. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday, Colaba recorded 42.8mm rainfall while the Santacruz Observatory recorded 85.8mm rainfall.

KS Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD, said that the city will continue to get heavy to very heavy rainfall until Tuesday. "There is a low-pressure area around Vidarbha thus strengthening the westerlies. Heavy rain warning for Monday and Tuesday has been issued to Mumbai and Konkan," he said.

While on Sunday there was no disruption across the three railway lines, BEST bus services in Andheri subway and near the National college, Bandra, were suspended for some time in the morning as a precautionary measure.

Eastern suburbs saw heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours between August 19 and 20 (8 am - 8 am). While Bhandup recorded the highest rainfall at 123.64 mm, Gavanpada in Mulund recorded 122.14 mm rainfall, followed by Ghatkopar (113.29mm), Vikhroli (93.46mm) and Kurla (86.83mm).

The heavy rains led to waterlogging in Sion, Dadar, Mumbai Central, Kurla, Andheri, and Sakinaka affecting traffic movement.

"Mumbai suburbs saw high rainfall in the last 24 hours. While two roads were shut for traffic for a very brief period, no major water-logging was reported in the city," a BMC official said.

Meanwhile, 11 short circuits were reported on Sunday: two in Mumbai city, three in eastern suburbs and six in the western suburbs. However, no injuries were reported.
