The headless body of a woman aged between 20 and 40 years was found in a gunny bag near the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Sunday night. The Bandra police have registered a case of murder and are going through missing persons’ complaints filed recently in a bid to identify the woman.
According to the police, a few rag pickers spotted the gunny bag near Mahim creek, a few metres away from the BWSL at around 9.30pm on Sunday. The Bandra police were then informed.
“We reached the spot and opened the bag to find the body of a woman. She was dressed in a short blue skirt and a black top, most likely belonging to a middle class family. It appears that she was killed brutally, and her body chopped into pieces,” said an officer attached with Bandra police station.
He added that despite searching the entire area, the woman’s head could not be found, making it difficult for them to identify her.
“The body has been sent to the Bhabha hospital for post mortem.
We are checking with all police stations if any missing person complaint was registered. This could help us ascertain who the woman was,” said additional commissioner of police (west region), Vishwas Nangre Patil.
The police are also going through CCTV footage of nearby areas to find clues. The crime branch is conducting a parallel inquiry into the case, said another officer.
