Hasty passengers, reclining travellers most annoying while flying

Do you rush towards the exit gate no sooner the aircraft halts (before the seat belt sign goes off), upon reaching your destination? Though you may want to reach either your meeting on time, or see your family at the earliest, this action has been ranked as one of the most irritating habits in a survey conducted on fliers, by a leading travel portal.

The annual survey done by TripAdvisor found that 56% of the respondents found that to be the most annoying habit, followed by reclining of the seat (51%). Co-passengers not switching off their phones until being asked to do so by crew ranked third (40%).

One of the factors considered important for flying comfortably, included one's attire. About 83% of those polled revealed that 'casuals' were their most preferred clothing for an air journey, followed by formals, with just 7%.

Books have long been one's flying companion. Sharing about the things they do during the air journey, 59% respondents stated that they find solace in the company of books, followed by an iPad/tablet and iPod/portable music player, at 42% and 26% respectively.

While the internet is increasingly playing an important role in the aviation industry, web check-in shows a sharp increase compared to last year. 85% respondents indicated that they opt for a web check-in 'sometimes' or 'always', which is a big rise from 76% in 2013.

As for the applications downloaded, 45% respondents have an airline app on their phones, versus just 23% in 2013. Jet Airways is the most downloaded app (61%), followed by IndiGo (50%).

Airfares play an important role and many a time, become the deciding factor in majority of the price sensitive Indian passengers. Nearly half the respondents (48%) think domestic airlines are not transparent about all the costs in booking a flight, like meal, extra baggage costs, etc.

Further, while most Indians (45%) are comfortable with bundled/consolidated fares, 20% respondents said they do not mind paying basic fare and adding items as per their needs. 16% respondents said unbundled fares are great for solo or overnight business travellers with minimum luggage, but not for a family going on a holiday.
