Following the footsteps of the Madhya Pradesh government, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to set up Happiness Centres or ‘Swantrata Ananda Kaksha’ in Mumbai to bring cheer in the lives of citizens. The proposal to set up at least three such centres across Mumbai will be presented in the civic body’s general body meeting on February 16.
Datta Narvankar, a Shiv Sena corporator who recently defected from Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), had initially coined the idea. The proposal has already received the civic Improvement Committee’s approval. “I hope it gets approved in the general body meeting,” said Narvankar. As per the proposal, these centres will be developed in open spaces and include facilities like an amphitheater, playground, picnic spot, recreational space, parking space and eateries among others.
The MP government had set up its Happiness Department in 2016.
