While stating that the voice of a writer cannot be silenced, veteran lyricist Gulzar on Saturday expressed the need to organise a literary meet at the national level, which would bring together writers, poets and literature lovers from various regions.

Gulzar was speaking at the inaugural function of the 89'th All India Marathi Literary Meet. Later in the evening, a commemorative postal stamp on Gulzar was released after his public interview at the main pandal, which has been named after Maharashtra Bhushan poet Late Mangesh Padgaonkar.

Gulzar narrated the story of a writer whose tongue was cut off after it was revealed that he was a writer. He added, "A writer can be identified just through his sigh, as a mouthful of words are flooded out in his single sigh."

It was a treat for Gulzar lovers when he recited one nazm after the other during an interview with writer-journalist Ambarish Mishra. Through his poems, Gulzar brought out the nostalgia coupled with the irony of life. In one of the poems, he described his old house and its ambience. He added, "There is an old guest house opposite my house and grandsons visit from time to time from the US, every time grown up a little. I don't know whether the same
grandchildren come every time or it is someone else." The poem recital received huge applause.
