She had booked a tour on the Mumbai Darshan bus and met a man who introduced himself as a tour guide. After the tour ended at around 7 pm in Juhu, he offered to show her actor Amitabh Bachchan's bungalow, which was nearby.
He offered to drop her to her hotel in Colaba afterwards, saying he lived in the vicinity and was headed there. She agreed and he booked a cab using a mobile application.
"En route, the guide stopped at a wine shop and bought beers," say police, quoting from the victim statement. "He allegedly forced her to drink, which she resisted. He then began to grope her. When she fought back, he choked, sexually assaulted and raped her."
The tourist gave her statement to Colaba police, and the case was transferred to Juhu police where the assault occurred. "After the assault, the tour guide threatened her to not tell anyone," said an office from Juhu police station. "We are investigating what the driver was doing while all this was happening and whether he was in cahoots with the accused."
The traumatised tourist approached the Italian embassy and lodged a police complaint after on June 29. "We have registered a case of rape and sexual assault and a probe is on trace the tour guide," said a police officer.
