Nearly all ministers from Mumbai are unhappy with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. They are upset with the way the guardian ministerships have been divided, with, according to sources, none barring one getting the one they had been lobbying for for days.
Cabinet ministers Prakash Mehta (BJP) and Subhash Desai (Shiv Sena) were in the race for the post of guardian minister for Mumbai Suburban District, and, sources said, it has not gone down well with them that ultimately core committee member of state BJP and education minister Vinod Tawde was selected.
Mehta has been given the responsibility of Raigad district, while Desai has been made the guardian minister for Mumbai City.
Senior Sena leader and minister for environment Ramdas Kadam, on the other hand, has been appointed as the guardian minister for Aurangabad, dashing his hope of being given the charge of Ratnagiri as he belongs to that belt. Minister of state for housing Ravindra Waikar has been given that post.
The lone one who has got what he had been eying is public works department minister Eknath Shinde. The Sena leader, who hails from Thane, has been appointed as the guardian minister for Thane.
Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has been given responsibility of two districts — Chandrapur and Wardha. Pankaja Munde, minister for rural development, women & child welfare and water conservation, has been given Latur and Beed, and irrigation minister Eknath Khadse will be guardian minister for Jalgaon and Buldhana.
A guardian minister has a lot of say in the district-level development and planning as well as in projects and funds used for them. More importantly, guardian minister's consent has to be taken for all important decisions concerning his district.
