The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched a manhunt for an unknown man in his 20s, allegedly wanted for molesting a 22-year-old MBA student in a Churchgate-bound train on August 6. The GRP, which took suo moto cognisance in the case, have formed five teams to nab the accused and are making inquiries in the nearby area.

According to sources in the GRP, the police have already sent the accused's photo to police stations across the city. "We have got the CCTV grabs of the accused and have put our men on job. We are confident of nabbing the accused soon," said a senior officer.

"One of the issues that had come to fore after the incident was of policemen being absent from the ladies compartment; a DCP rank officer will be carrying out an inquiry into it and the report will be submitted within a week."

On August 6, the MBA student had boarded a Churchgate-bound local train from Malad. When she entered the ladies compartment, there were a few women. However, when the train reached Grant Road station around 11pm, a youth boarded the compartment, which had become empty by then. He allegedly molested the victim and also tore her clothes, escaping when the train stopped at a signal near Marine Lines. Some men at Churchgate station helped the student and took her to the stationmaster, who informed the GRP. The victim, however, did not file an official complaint in the case.
