The state government will submit to the Bombay high court details of double allotment of flats to politicians’ relatives under the chief minister’s discretionary quota.

The government pleader told the division bench of justice PV Hardas and justice Revati Mohite-Dere that they were ready with the allotment details and would submit them to the court in two weeks. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by former journalist Ketan Tirodkar seeking investigation into the allotments under CM quota in which relatives of several politicians like Ashok Chavan, Chhagan Bhujbal and Narayan Rane were allotted more than one flat.

According to the PIL, Chavan’s mother-in-law Bhagwati Sharma – in whose name the flat is allotted in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society – has been allotted a flat in Powai under the chief minister’s discretionary quota.

Sharma has been given an 800-square-feet flat in Kingston Building in Powai under the CM’s quota, reads the PIL. Tirodkar has sought that an investigation be conducted under Prevention of Corruption Act and under section 420 of Indian Penal Code against the ministers and their relatives.

The PIL further alleges that former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal was allotted an 825sqft flat in Pune in May 1992 by the government.

His nephew, Sameer Bhujbal, who is also an NCP leader, was allotted a 1,040sqft flat in Pune under ‘intense need of space’ category from the CM’s quota a few years ago. Congress minister Narayan Rane’s brother, Ashok, was allotted a flat in Pune. Also, Ashok’s daughter was allotted a flat from CM’s quota in Mumbai.

The petition mentions names of ministers who have been beneficiaries under the CM quota — Tushar, son of leader of opposition Eknath Khadse, and Abid and Sajid Musharif, sons of Congress minister Hassan Musharif.

IAS officers Uttam Khobragade, Chitkala Zutshi and R Subramaniam have also been named as beneficiaries under the CM quota, who were allotted flats in Pune. The high court will hear the PIL after two weeks.
