Govt stays MSRTC salary cut, for now

The state government has decided to announce a temporary stay on the 36-day salary cut of the Maharashtra ​State ​Road​ Transport ​Corporation ​ (MSRTC) employees for their strike during Diwali. The government will cut only four days of salary as a penalty. The government has decided to cancel the salary cut for employees who would forego eight days earned leave for four striking days.

The decision was taken at a meeting held by Minister for Transport Diwakar Raote. Raote informed that since recognised unions have decided to approach the court against salary cut, he has given a temporary stay to the decision until the court decides on the matter. The minister said that since the strike went on for four days, they would receive a pay cut of four days and this salary cut would reflect over the next four months. He said that if the employees forego eight days’ earned leave for four striking days, no salary cut would be imposed.

The board of directors of the state Transport Corporation in its meeting on Januray 29, 2006 had decided that if any employee of the ST Corporation goes on strike which is illegal, his salary for the strike day would not be paid and a fine equivalent to eight days’ salary would be imposed.
