Govt identifies 14 lakh affordable homes under PMAY

The homes in MMR will be constructed by MHADA, while those in Khargar and surrounding areas will be constructed by CIDCO

The government has identified 14 lakh affordable homes that they want to construct under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state. A total of 2.20 lakh homes have been approved by the Centre, of which construction work for 25,857 homes has already started, many of them are in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 

An additional 2.5 lakh homes in the Pune Metropolitan Region are being added to the list.

The homes in MMR will be constructed by MHADA, while those in Khargar and surrounding areas will be constructed by CIDCO. On February 7, the state government's PMAY body got the approval for another 10,000 affordable homes in Vidarbha and adjacent regions in the state.

The state has already received Rs 270-crore fund from the Centre for the project. Under PMAY, the government will construct 14 lakh affordable homes in the state. "The funds amounting up to Rs 270 crore have been disbursed, we have more than 2.20 lakh homes and work on 25,857 homes have started," said Milind Mhaiskar, Vice-President of MHADA, and nodal authority of PMAY.

On Sunday, the government will sign Memorandum of Understandings for 9.15 lakh affordable homes with several developer bodies including CREDAI.

A senior PMAY official said: "We already have more 2.5 lakh homes that we are getting from Pune Metropolitan Region. Apart from this there are memorandum of understandings between CREDAI-MCHI and CREDAI Maharashtra, these homes are nearly 9.15 lakh and will be part of PMAY. This will bring the total to 14 lakh homes. We are close to our target now."
