In addition to reviewing decisions in the fag-end of its tenure by the previous Congress-NCP Democratic Front government, the Devendra Fadnavis-led government would examine 1,260 schemes for their efficiency in delivering larger public good.

The state government would review all these schemes, including welfare schemes from the Center and the state-run schemes to allocate money based on the efficiency of the delivery mechanism of the scheme instead of on the basis of expenditure being incurred over the years.

Finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar informed that department of social justice is provided with 11.8 per cent of the state budget and tribal development department is given 9.4 per cent of it. The government would review and examine whether the money provided through all the 1,260 schemes is utilised efficiently or not.

Mungantiwar informed that since it would be the first budget of the mega-alliance government, he would implement this decision of efficiency-based allocation from June 1. He said that when the state spends 39,000 crore on education and Rs11,000 crore on salaries of the police department, it is imperative to ensure that every single rupee is spent judiciously.

Transparent is the key
Mungantiwar informed the cabinet has taken the decision towards implementing right to services in its first meeting soon after the oath taking ceremony at Wankhede stadium on October 31. It has also instructed to all the departments that no file can be kept pending above seven days. He informed that the government employees, including officers of any rank would be liable for fine in case of inadvertent delays for clearing files. He informed that this was being done to ensure that the government functions in a transparent manner.
