After several question papers of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exam leaked on whatsapp minutes before the exam this year, the government has now formed an 8 member committee to probe the leaks and malpractices in Class 10 and 12 board exams and to avoid such malpractices in the future.

Papers of Secretarial Practice, Physics,Mathematics and Statistics scheduled in the month of February-March were doing rounds on WhatsApp a few minutes before the exam. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) had refused to call it a leak as the papers were circulated only post 10.30 after most students are already in the exam hall.

The board had however asked all the schools to maintain a record of all the students who enter the exam hall after 10.30. Special flying squads were also deployed in the examination centres.

On Friday, the government released a GR announcing the formation of an eight member committee to investigate into the issue. "A committee has been formed to probe into the issue. The committee will also try and point factors due to which the papers are being circulated. It will also be suggesting possible remedies to the problem," states the GR.

The committee is a part of the government's drive to fight against 'unfair means' under which the government aims to curb copying and cheating in all exams across the state.

The committee comprises of the Commissioner (Education ), Police Commissioner, Navi Mumbai, Secretary (MPSC), Education Director, a representative from CBSE, Commissioner of the state's examination commission, Chairperson, Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher secondary Education. The committee can also invite expert suggestions for the task.

Tipping off

A coaching class owner had alerted the board about papers of Secretarial Practice(SP) being leaked on WhatsApp a few minutes before exams started. This was followed by several other papers like physics and mathematics being circulated minutes before the exams.
