Mahajan said that they had identified serious irregularities in the 12 irrigation projects. "We had ordered an ACB inquiry into these projects. We had suspended three officers from the Kondane project and one from the Kalu project. We had also set up the committee to study and implement the 42 suggestions given by Chitale committee. Besides, we also found out various lapses in the 16 irrigation projects. We had asked the technical committee to restudy these projects and resubmit them," said Mahajan.

"Chitale committee had given various suggestions and fixed the responsibility of regional officers. It has recommended 42 suggestions to bring more land under irrigation," he added.

The report states that in future water will be used for more non-irrigated purpose. "Therefore, the recycling of the water has to be done by the local corporation and the government authorities. Govt should make such law and fix the responsibility mainly low rainfall areas. There should be separate irrigation policy. Besides, government should undertake survey how much mud-silt has pilled in the state reservoirs. Govt should prepared the time bound plan to remove the silt from the dams that will increase the storage capacity," stated the report.

It further states that while calculating the cost of the project, the original cost of the project and hike should be considered. "The cost of the projects should be increased by 15% only. After that the project can be approved by the government. There should not be the sporadic rise in the cost of the project," recommended the Chitale committee report.
