City Crime Branch sleuths on Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old man who was having an illicit affair with two women from the same locality. When one of the women, identified as Gudia Jagadish Nishad (34) came to know about his second affair, she bashed him up, after which the accused murdered her.

The arrested person has been identified as Tejbahadur Dayaram Bind alias Bahadur, a native of Bhadoi in Uttar Pradesh.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Detection, Nisar Tamboli, Nishad, a resident of Prem Nagar in Goregaon (W) was allegedly murdered by an unknown person using a sharp weapon on June 23.

"Our probe revealed that one Tejbahadur Bind who stayed in Prem Nagar had an illicit relationship with Nishad, a married woman with two children. He had been missing from the locality since the time of the murder. We then began searching for him and finally, he was nabbed from Varanasi on Tuesday," said a police officer.

"We have seized the bloodstained clothes worn by the suspect and his mobile phone," said Police Inspector Chimaji Aadhav.

Another police officer said, "Bind had an illicit relationship with two women from the same locality. One of them was Nishad. Since she learnt about the other affair, she used to quarrel with him regularly. On the day of the incident, Nishad visited the residence of the second lady and found Bind there, that sparked another row. Later that day Bind visited Nishad's residence where she bashed him and tried to strangulate him after which Bind picked up a knife and slit her throat."
