Goregaon based woman develops technology for visually-challenged

After coming back to India, Kapoor realised that people with disabilities require more than just sympathy. She then associated herself with various international agencies and NGOs to work for the disabled.

Goregaon-based Shilpi Kapoor has been working for the visually-challenged people from a decade now. The 45-year-old works towards developing software for the visually-challenged people. Kapoor quit a lucrative job in United States of America, in 2005, to start a training centre for the blind, in association with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Mumbai. 40% of the staff at Kapoor's office is visually-challenged and the staff works effectively every day on software developed by Kapoor. At Breaking Barrier Technologies, the staff works on different things like operating desktops, breaking programming codes, redefining new technology for tablets and developing testing applications for smartphones as well.

After coming back to India, Kapoor realised that people with disabilities require more than just sympathy. She then associated herself with various international agencies and NGOs to work for the disabled.
Kapoor and her team have developed special keyboards, devices, readers, magnifiers and programmes of international standards, so far.

Kapoor has recieved various awards and honours for the work she is doing. Yet, she continues to work to make technology-based learning easily available for the visually-challenged.
