For the first time in all these years, Gorai village in Borivli will get it's own water pipeline. The village was forced to experience water shortage all this while even as they had a water pipeline connection which had to be shared with Manori (Malad) village, but received very little or no water. The new 12 inch pipeline will be exclusively for the Gorai village housing more than 15,000 people.

Ashok Tavadia, Hydraulic Engineer from BMC's water department said that the existing pipeline was passed below the sea from Marve to Manori which was stretched to Culvem and from there to Gorai Village. "But the residents had complained that they are not receiving enough water. So the civic administration decided to lay another separate pipeline for the Gorai village. Now this will improve the water supply to the village and they will get enough water with pressure too", said Tavadia.

"Gorai village did not have any source of water connection all these years. Earlier, the BMC provided water by tankers which was filled in 5,000 litres community tanks. The residents used to carry water in pots. The pipeline, for which the foundation stone was laid in 2001 by the then Petroleum Minister Ram Naik was coming from Manori in Malad. Each household then had fixed pipelines and taps in their homes, but by the time water reached Gorai, we hardly used to receive any water. People were deprived of their basic right," said Rossi Dsouza, sarpanch of the Gorai Gaothan Panchayat.

Dsouza and Royston Godinho, Deputy Sarpanch of Gorai Gaothan Panchayat approached Shiva Shetty who was the corporator of the area 4 years ago. "After three years of rigorous follow up, finally the water department sanctioned the new pipeline at the cost of Rs 4 crore," said Shetty.
