Gorai mandal booked for exceeding decibel levels during visarjan procession

Borivli police on Sunday booked two persons, including a disco jockey (DJ) for playing loud music during Ganpati Visarjan procession and violating Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules.

According to the police, at around 10.55 pm, Ganpati procession of Mahaganpati Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal was passing through Gorai Road in Borivali (W). As per the police, the DJ associated with the mandal was playing loud music, thereby creating public nuisance. "Repeated warnings were given to the mandal officials and the DJ to lower the volume, but they chose to disobey it," said an officer from Borivali police station.

The police then stopped the procession and booked the Mandal head Suresh Fernandes (34) and DJ Vijendra Gupta (32) under sections 188, (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 290 (punishment for public nuisance in cases not otherwise provided for), 291 (continuance of nuisance after injunction to discontinue) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and violating the rules of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules act, 2000.
