Putting all conspiracy theories to rest, the CBI has concluded that rash and negligent driving by taxi driver Gurvinder Singh is what led to the death of former union minister of rural development Gopinath Munde.

The CBI on Thursday charge-sheeted Singh, 32, under sections 279 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code. If found guilty, he will have to undergo a sentence of maximum two years in prison.

The CBI has ruled out any foul play and also claimed to have established "convincingly" the fact that the politician died due to injuries sustained. "During the probe, a thorough scrutiny of all possible leads and angles was done. The antecedents and movements of suspected people and all associated with the minister were verified. However, the probe has clearly ruled out any foul play...," the CBI report had said.

CBI spokesperson said the agency had taken the assistance of IIT, Delhi, to inspect the scene of crime using the latest state-of-the-art forensic technology and software. The IIT team opined that Singh was speeding at 50 kmph, and, at the time of the collision, Munde's car was travelling at 25-30 kmph.

"It was also disclosed that the driver of Munde's car had blown the horn at the crossing, just before the collision occurred," the CBI said.
