The National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) told the Bombay High Court on Tuesday that it has prima facie found an alternate land proposed by the Godrej Group suitable for acquisition for the bullet train project.

Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd informed the High Court that the alignment of the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train would not change if their proposal made to the NHSRCL to acquire an alternate land parcel is accepted.

However, Advocate Jyoti Chavan, appearing for the state government, informed the court that the 'title' of the first land parcel suggested by the company turned out to be a disputed property. So, while deciding on the company proposal for the other land parcel, the state government should be consulted by concerned authorities, to avoid considering a disputed property by mistake again.

A division bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Girish Kulkarni also asked the concerned state government department to verify the second proposal. "This land should not turn out to be embroiled in some legal dispute also." The bench has posted the matter for further hearing on September 3.

Godrej and Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd had approached the High Court in May, challenging the proposed acquisition of its property in suburban Vikhroli. It has suggested an alternate plot of land which it claims it has the right on, to be acquired for the proposed high-speed bullet train project.

Accordingly, the company suggested another land parcel to the NHSRCL in Vikhroli for the project. The corporation, in an affidavit submitted to the court on Tuesday, said, prima facie the site is suitable for the project. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, appearing for the corporation, said: "We will examine the proposal in details."

The company, in its petition, has sought a direction to the concerned authorities to change the project's alignment so that it can get nearly 8.6 acres of land belonging to its infrastructural arm Godrej Construction. Of the total 508.17 km of rail track between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, about 21 km is planned to be underground as per the current alignment of the bullet train project. One of the entry points to the underground tunnel falls on the land in the eastern suburb of Vikhroli.
