Congress MLA from Vile Parle Krishna Hegde has again targeted municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte. He has complained in writing to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and has demanded Kunte’s removal.

In a hard-hitting letter, Hegde has written: “I would like to inform you that it is the strong feeling amongst all elected representatives cutting across party lines (that) the municipal
commissioner Sitaram Kunte is ‘inefficient’.’’

When contacted by dna, Kunte refuted the charge and said he has been working to the best of his ability.

Hegde has given specific instances where civic issues in his constituency  have not been resolved “in spite of regular follow-up”.

The MLA has listed nine works  pending with Kunte for the past year and a half (see box).

Hegde said Kunte had “read a factual report to me couple of months back in his office which had no facts or dates and since months I have not received even the reply/ copy from him.”

“I have informed regarding the inefficiency of the municipal commissioner in party meetings and personally to you also earlier this year and now  opposition parties (are) also showing their ‘No confidence’ in Mr Kunte...,’’ the MLA has stated.

Dna forwarded a copy of Hegde’s letter to Kunte four days ago to get his response but there wasn’t any. However, Nana Ambole of the Shiv Sena said he had “no problem” with Kunte. “He does my work. So why should I complain?” he said.
