Two 12-year-old schoolgirls staged their own kidnapping on Monday to avoid tuition classes. They were found loitering in uniform with their bags near their homes in Diva the same evening by neighbours.

On Monday, when the two didn’t return home, their parents rushed to the school. On not finding them, they approached the Kanjurmarg police.

However, at 7pm the same day, the girls were seen outside their homes in Diva. The two said they had been kidnapped and taken to Badlapur. But when the police questioned them again, They revealed they were fed up with studies, tuition classes and parents scolding them, and hence, cooked up the story.

“After school, they boarded the Badlapur slow local from Bhandup. They spent time there and returned when they ran out of money,” said ACP (Bhandup division) Mahadev Gundewadi.
