The Kherwadi police have sent a letter to the public works department (PWD) seeking action against a state excise officer who had allegedly rented out his official government quarter to a family. The family lodged a non-cognisable complaint against the officer on Tuesday evening alleging that he, along with a woman, had assaulted them and threw them out of the house.

According to the police, Pushpa Ladva, was living with her husband, Vijay, daughter Heeral and son in that house. Heeral, is a class X student and her exam had began on Wednesday. After the family was thrown out on Monday, Heeral's hall ticket was left inside the flat. The family spent the night at Bandra Terminus and the next day approached the police.

Speaking to dna, Heeral said, "I had my first exam on Wednesday, and I was under tremendous stress for the past two days. I think, I did well in my paper but could have done better. The police was very helpful in retrieving my hall ticket from the house."

Anand Jadhav, a police inspector, said, "We have sent a letter to the officer concerned in PWD office in Bandra seeking action against the excise officer. We have asked them to forward the report to us explaining how he could have given his official flat on rent. We have also send a letter to the excise office and requested them to take action against him," said Jadhav.

"The excise officer helped me get work with the BMC. The government flat allotted to him was lying vacant, so I took it on rent," said Vijay, who works as a private contractor for the BMC.

Jadhav further added that the officer had assured the family that they could continue to live in that house till Heeral's exams were over.
