A 14-year-old girl, who left her Andheri house after she received a scolding for poor results, was spotted by an autorickshaw driver in Thane and handed over to the police.

The ninth class student had left home early on Saturday and the police managed to return her to her parents on Sunday.

According to the Kopri police, the girl was apparently even slapped by the parents for failing in mathematics.

An auto driver saw the girl at Thane railway station at around midnight on Saturday and noticing something wrong managed he talked to her and persuaded her to go along with him to the police station.

Initially, she tried to mislead the cops in the Thane child protection unit, giving then wrong information about herself.

Senior inspector Madan Bhallal said they issued a notice about the girl and within hours received a response from their counterparts in Saki Naka, where the father of the girl had gone to lodge a missing complaint.
