An alert neighbour helped a Mazagaon family trace their 14-year-old daughter after she eloped with her boyfriend. Based on the information provided by the neighbour, the police tracked down the couple to a Kolkata-bound train and rescued her from Bhusawal station.

The police said the father of the minor girl woke up around 5.30 am on February 27 only to find his daughter missing. As the panicked family began a search in their locality, a neighbour said he had seen the girl and a young man entering a taxi in the direction of CST.

The neighbour also identified the youth as 21-year-old Anil Chaudhary, an employee of a scrap shop in Mazagon. The girl's family rushed to CST, but upon enquiring, they learnt that both had left the city at 6am on board the Kolkata-bound Gitanjali Express.

Following a complaint by the 52-year-old father, the police registered a case of kidnapping against Chaudhary and alerted their counterparts at stations along the train's route. A police team spotted the couple on the train after it pulled into Bhusawal station around 12.30pm.

"The neighbour's alertness and prompt action by the police helped us crack the case in a few hours. While the couple was brought to the city on Sunday, Chaudhary has been arrested," said an officer from Byculla railway station.
