On Tuesday, a group of residents from Girgaum met the station master of Charni Road railway station and handed him a letter asking that an attendant be placed at the automated ticket vending machines (ATVMs) posted on platform number 4 of the station.

Residents say they are facing a problem either using the machines or most of them do not have the card to get the tickets.

After Charni Road foot-overbridge was shut owing to the collapse of a part of its staircase, residents are facing several problems in reaching the platform. Two weeks ago, residents had approached the local Member of Parliament Arvind Sawant seeking help.

Following this, the zebra crossing and special exits and entry points at the stations were made.

However, a fresh problem has cropped up now. Automatic Ticket Vending Machines are placed at the exit gates. "We gave the letter to the station master asking him to depute one person at the station to handle the ATVM machines. There are cases where residents were fined. These commuters wanting to get tickets entered the station, as the earlier ticket counter after the bridge was shut has been out of reach, and to get tickets one has to reach the other side. We informed him of all our problems," said Gaurav Sagwekar, of Aami Girgaumkar.

According to Sagwekar, many school students and senior citizens are complaining because they have to walk a lot to get tickets.

"Many senior citizens and students do not know how to use the ATVM machines and if people are deputed to help them, it will ease the commute," said Sagwekar.

Repeated attempts to contact CPRO of Western Railway elicited no response.
