Three unidentified bike-borne men allegedly opened fire at film producer Ali Morani's residence in Juhu on Saturday night. According to sources from the police department, Morani claims that gangster Ravi Pujari, who had allegedly been threatening him with extortion calls, is behind the firing.

Pujari sent men after extortion call
Morani had reportedly ignored a call from Pujari hours before the assailants opened fire. The police have provided a security cover at Morani's residence after the incident. In July, Morani had approached the Anti-Extortion Cell of the crime branch complaining about the extortion call he received from the gangster.

What happened on Saturday night
On Saturday, at around 10:30pm, three people in a bike zipped past Morani's residence Shagun located on 9th road Juhu and fired three to four bullets from the moving bike before they fled. A police officer said, "The bike that came from Juhu circle direction sped towards Juhu police station area. Two security guards were on duty at that time. Atleast three rounds were fired from one of the assailants which hit the trunk of a tree, glass pane of the building and the bonnet of a BMW car parked inside the building." Nobody had been injured in the incident.

Was the firing a warning move?
Morani had left for Dubai at around 10pm and there was nobody in the residence at that time, said the police. The watchmen did not inform the police immediately and waited till the next day. A case was registered on Sunday at the Juhu police by Morani's brother, Karim. A crime branch official, said, "We have received information that Morani had a call from Pujari hours before the shooting, which he did not answer. After the firing, Morani's daughter received an SMS from Pujari briefing about the incident and threatened Morani of dire consequences."

What the cops have done so far
The police, however, took about three hours on Sunday to spot the bullet marks and register a case. Both the Juhu police and the crime branch officials are investigating the case. They are in the process of recording statements from the family members and are also questioning the security guards of the building. The CCTV cameras in the area are also being checked to identify the assailants. Refusing to divulge any information, Satyanarayan Chaudhary, DCP Zone 9, said, "We have registered a case. Investigations are on." The police sources said that the producer continues to receive extortion calls from the gangster after the incident.

Other actors Pujari's called in the past
Morani and his brother Karim have produced films like 'Raja Hindustani', 'Damini', 'Dushmani', etc. They also own several event management companies including Cineyug Entertainment that organizes prestigious shows and events in the country and abroad. The Moranis have worked closely with Bollywood bigwigs like Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, etc in several big projects and events. This is not the first time Pujari has made extortion calls to filmmakers and stars. Actors Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Fahan Akthar and producer Boney Kapoor have received extortion calls from the gangster in the past.
