The accused in the kidnapping have been identified as Rajesh Kamble (26), Sufyan Quereshi (25), Abdul Choudhary (27) and Abdul Shaikh (27).
Gang rivalry between two criminals, lodged at Arthur Road jail in separate cases, led to the kidnapping of a six-year-old child of one of the accused from the premises of the jail itself. The incident took place when one of the half murder accused's wife had come to meet him in the jail.
The accused in the kidnapping have been identified as Rajesh Kamble (26), Sufyan Quereshi (25), Abdul Choudhary (27) and Abdul Shaikh (27).
According to the Agripada police, the complainant in the case is the wife of Ganesh Pandaram. Ganesh had been arrested on charges of half murder three months ago. He is a member of a gang functional in the Shivaji Nagar area which is in rivalry with another gang from the area. One of the members from the rival gang is also lodged in the same jail as Ganesh.
In February, Pandaram's wife along with her two sons and his friends had come to meet him. At the same time, gang members of the rival gang too had come to the jail when the accused allegedly kidnapped one of the sons of Pandaram and also abducted one friend of Pandaram.
Pandaram's wife has alleged in her complaint to the police that as she arrived at the jail, she asked the six-year-old child to wait for her in the waiting room when the other inmate's friends arrived at the jail too. The inmate allegedly instructed the accused to kidnap the Pandaram's child on which the accused picked up the child and also assaulted Pandaram's friend.
"The mother immediately informed us and we rescued both of them however the accused were absconding and were arrested later on. We have booked them for kidnapping and it seems it is the gang rivalry in the area which led to the kidnapping. One of the accused is still absconding and we will arrest him soon," said a police officer from Agripada police station.
